Bratislava, February 24 (TASR) - The opposition Christian Democrats (KDH) have congratulated the conservative CDU/CSU bloc on its victory in the German general election on Sunday (February 23), adding that the election has shown that the current times once again demand conservative and Christian solutions that are based on common sense. KDH congratulated Christian Democratic Union (CDU) chairman Friedrich Merz, stating that he managed to convince voters that conservative politics based on common sense is the path to a stable and prosperous Germany. "He chose the most difficult path despite great opposition from left-wing progressive forces," stated KDH in its stance provided to TASR by its communications department on Monday. "At times of great challenges, Friedrich Merz wasn't afraid to defend the conservative policies and values on which Europe grew up and thanks to which it was able to stand on its two feet after two world wars. We believe that his victory will bring the expected changes, strengthen the economy and restore trust in natural values," added KDH. The snap general election in Germany ended with victory for the conservative CDU/CSU bloc, followed by Alternative for Germany (AfD), the Social Democrats (SPD), the Greens, and the Left Party. The liberals from the FDP and the Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance (BSW), which ran in the election for the first time after breaking away from the Left, were left outside the German Parliament - the Bundestag. ko/df
