Simecka: Fico Abuses State Power to Fabricate Cases Against Me

Bratislava, February 26 (TASR) - Premier Robert Fico (Smer-SD) is abusing state power and using false pretexts to fabricate cases against me, opposition Progressive Slovakia (PS) party leader Michal Simecka stated in a response to the government's statement from Wednesday where the cabinet criticised Simecka in connection with enforcement proceedings initiated by EU authorities against the civic association 'Project Forum'. "It's absurd that the Slovak Government Office is dealing with an accounting dispute between a civic association and the European agency EACEA from 2012, as if people in Slovakia were not facing real problems. But we’ve gotten used to Robert Fico abusing state power and any false pretexts to fabricate cases against me. This is yet another failed attempt. I have nothing to do with the civic association in question, except for sharing the last name Simecka," noted the PS leader. On Wednesday, the Slovak government called on Simecka to disclose all income from organisations, associations, and other entities in which his family members and close associates hold positions, covering the years 2010 to 2025. It also requested the disclosure of the actual use of resources, citing the initiation of enforcement proceedings by EU authorities against the civic association 'Project Forum'.
