Skalica, February 26 (TASR) - The long-term social care for seniors and the shortage of staff in social care facilities is a major regional issue, President Peter Pellegrini stated after visiting the towns of Senica and Skalica (both in Trnava region), also mentioning the insufficient financial compensation for social care workers.
"I must say that the town of Skalica, as well as Senica, take care of their seniors in the best way they can, but their capacities are limited. And we must remember that the demographic curve and trends clearly indicate that the number of elderly people in Slovakia will increase," said the president, adding that he expects to address this issue in other regions as well.
Pellegrini also highlighted that despite their difficult financial situation, both visited towns support sports and the development of the city through the implementation of various projects, such as the €10.5 million project in Skalica. In Senica, he praised a €900,000 investment in a bike-sharing system, which contributes to the development of eco-friendly transportation.
