Kosice, February 27 (TASR) - An investigator from the Office of Inspectorate Service (UIS) has launched an investigation regarding the possible abuse of public office regarding the case of the man who was shot by a police officer in Kosice on Wednesday evening (February 26), TASR learnt from UIS spokesperson Andrea Dobiasova on Thursday.
"Action has been ongoing since Wednesday evening. It's not yet possible to provide any specific information," said Dobiasova.
A 29-year-old patient with gunshot wounds was transported to the hospital in Kosice's borough of Saca following the incident. "He underwent several hours of emergency surgery. The patient is currently in the anesthesiology and intensive medicine ward in a serious but stable condition," said Jarmila Sevcikova from Agel SK, the company to which Saca hospital belongs.
On Wednesday, the Kosice Region Police confirmed that a police officer had fired a gunshot at a suspect after the suspect swung a machete at one of the officers sent to tackle him. "The second officer fired his service weapon and hit the suspect," the police stated on social media.
The police officers had been dispatched to investigate a report from people who were concerned for their life and health. According to the report, a person with a machete was at a petrol station. He began fleeing from the police and, after being stopped, actively resisted, pulling out the machete and swinging it at the responding officers.
