Presov, February 27 (TASR) - A police officer allegedly beat up Roma children at a school in the village of Strane pod Tatrami (Presov region), according to a video posted by MP Peter Pollak on a social network on Thursday.
Children aged 11-13 claim in it that they had their faces slapped by the officer, with one of the children even receiving a kick into a leg. Spokesperson of the Internal Affairs Inspectorate (UIS) Andrea Dobiasova confirmed to TASR that the UIS is investigating the case already.
On Thursday, Pollak stated that if suspicions of the attack are proven true, it'll amount to an unprecedented misdeed for which the police officer must bear responsibility. "We'll report the case to the Public Ombudsman and the Commissioner for Children. On Monday, we'll file a criminal complaint with the Prosecutor-General's Office. It is absolutely unacceptable for any police officer to beat any children, regardless of whether they're of Roma ethnicity or not," said Pollak.
