Bratislava, March 3 (TASR) - The opposition Christian Democrats (KDH) want to discuss the draft constitutional law with all parliamentary parties, KDH deputy chairman Viliam Karas told a press conference on Monday, adding that KDH chairman Milan Majersky will start sending letters to all parliamentary party chairmen on Monday asking for a meeting.
"We hope that we'll be able to meet with all political parties willing to discuss these issues in the days and weeks leading up to the start of a regular session," said Karas, expressing a hope that they will reach a consensus on the most essential parts and find 90 votes in Parliament needed to approve the proposal.
Karas thinks that the proposal is about strengthening the national identity, the level of internal political dialogue and Slovakia's economic prosperity. "It will be pro-integration, and furthermore there are also proposals about strengthening the rights of parents in relation to children, banning surrogacy, that is, so that children are not commodities. We're also proposing to strengthen the fight against crime and corruption," he added.
KDH will submit a draft constitutional law to the March parliamentary meeting, by which it wants to enshrine the sovereignty of the Slovak Republic in cultural and ethical issues in the Slovak Constitution. They want Slovakia to decide on these issues sovereignly. Last week, the opposition party rejected coordination with Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD), who presented proposals in Parliament to amend the Constitution also on value-based issues.
