Bratislava, March 5 (TASR) - The Biedronka supermarket retail chain, owned by Portugal-based group Jeronimo Martins, is officially entering the Slovak market. Before opening its first store in the village of Miloslavov near Bratislava, the company prepared a new distribution centre in Voderady (Trnava region), where the logistics of the Biedronka chain will be organised by a team of 66 people. Jeronimo Martins plans to gradually expand in Slovak regions. In the near future, it will open stores in other Slovak towns, including Zvolen (Banska Bystrica region), Povazska Bystrica (Trencin region), Nove Zamky (Nitra region) and Senica (Trnava region). Biedronka already employs almost 300 people in Slovakia in its stores, its headquarters in Bratislava and its own distribution centre. "Our priority is to offer high-quality and fresh food at the lowest prices to Slovak customers. Since the beginning, we've focused on cooperation with Slovak suppliers, with whom we've created several private labels that emphasise quality, freshness and sustainability. These values, along with fairness and transparency in our business, are key factors for the long-term growth of Biedronka in Slovakia," said Biedronka Slovakia general manager Maciej Lukowski. Biedronka is the largest discount grocery chain in Poland and has been operating there for 30 years. With a network of 3,270 stores and more than 81,000 employees, it is the biggest employer in Poland and the second-largest company in the country in terms of sales. ko/df
