Stats: Retail Revenues Up 0.8 percent Y-o-Y in January 2025

Bratislava, March 6 (TASR) - Retail revenues recorded year-on-year (y-o-y) growth of 0.8 percent in January 2025, maintaining growth for 13 consecutive months (in fixed prices), although the growth rate was the lowest in five months and among the three lowest monthly values since January 2024, while retail revenues dropped by 9 percent compared to December 2024 after seasonal adjustments, the Statistics Office reported on Thursday.
Only two of the nine retail sectors saw revenue growth in fixed prices compared to the previous year: hypermarkets and supermarkets, with a 3.3 percent growth, and specialised stores selling other goods such as footwear, clothing stores, drugstores and pharmacies, with a 7.2 percent growth.
Meanwhile, hobby-markets and stores selling furniture and electronics recorded a drop of 8.7 percent, followed by a 4.3 percent drop in fuel sales and a 9.1 percent drop in the revenues of specialised food, beverages and tobacco.
Revenues in the sale in accommodation grew by as much as 6.1 percent compared to the previous year, and restaurants and pubs grew by 5.8 percent, while revenues in sales and repairs of motor vehicles fell by 7.1 percent y-o-y. Wholesale sales were 5.4 percent higher in January compared to the same period in 2024.
Compared to the previous month, after seasonal adjustments, revenues in the sales and repairs of motor vehicles fell by 19.6 percent, accommodation revenues by 14.9 percent, and restaurant and pubs by 1.7 percent, while wholesale saw a 2.2 percent month-on-month growth in revenues.
