PS: Our Priority Abolishing Transaction Tax

Bratislava, March 6 (TASR) - The opposition Progressive Slovakia (PS) party aims to do everything possible to abolish the transaction tax, PS leader Michal Simecka stated on Thursday in response to the 'Slovakia' party's call for PS to withdraw its proposal for a special House session on the transaction tax in order to prevent the coalition from securing a majority in Parliament.
"We want to do everything possible to abolish the transaction tax," emphasised Simecka, arguing that the new tax would have a harmful impact on the Slovak economy and business environment. "Our argument is that this isn't the same proposal that was voted on in December, and we have precedents for this proposal to be voted on," he added. According to him, it's up to Parliament to decide which practice to follow, whether to disregard previous precedents.
PS caucus head Martin Dubeci added that, in his opinion, the current interpretation of the rules doesn't allow for an oath to be taken during such a session. "If the House changes precedents, we will assess this and take action," he stated.
The opposition 'Slovakia' party urged PS to withdraw its proposal for a special session on the transaction tax on Thursday, warning that during the session, Miroslav Radacovsky, the planned substitute for new Tourism and Sports Minister Rudolf Huliak, may take his oath as an MP, thereby securing a majority for the coalition.
