Remisova: Fico Wants Ukraine to Give Up All of Its Land

Bratislava, March 6 (TASR) - Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) is promoting a plan to make Ukraine give up all of its land, but such an approach will only encourage Russia as the aggressor to start invading and looting other countries as well, said opposition MP Veronika Remisova (Slovakia-For the People-KU) after a session of the House European Affairs Committee on Thursday. "This is not a just peace, and this is not the stance of a sovereign state. Yes, we must all strive for peace, everyone wants peace, and all European leaders have declared they want peace. But what Robert Fico is presenting here at the European Affairs Committee session is not a vision of a just and lasting peace," commented Remisova. For Remisova, it was shocking that the prime minister refused to take part in a meeting of European leaders convened by French President Emmanuel Macron, where one topic of discussion is the potential expansion of the French nuclear umbrella to other European countries. "Robert Fico radically rejected that. Let's note that with this, he's offering Slovakia on a silver platter to the aggressor ... For decades, we've been protected by the nuclear umbrella of the United States, but we can no longer assume, in light of the latest developments on the international scene, that this will remain so," underlined Remisova, who considers Fico's actions to be a betrayal of Slovakia's national interests. mf/df
