Budapest, March 6 (TASR) - Slovakia will be able to receive more than 1.5 billion cubic metres of gas via Hungary, Hungarian Foreign Affairs and Trade Minister Peter Szijjarto said following his meeting with Slovakia's Vice-premier and Economy Minister Denisa Sakova (Voice-SD) on Thursday, TASR has learnt from Russian news agency TASS.
"We're implementing more close energy cooperation between Slovakia and Hungary than ever before. Slovakia will buy more than 1.5 billion cubic metres of natural gas via Hungary. We also achieved that oil products made from Russian oil can also be used in Hungary and we take measures together against discrimination in respect of nuclear energy," Szijjarto wrote on a social network. Hungary and Slovakia had to establish closer cooperation in this sphere because "Brussels and Kiev create problems on and on for energy security" of the two countries, said the minister.
Slovakia started experiencing gas supply problems after Ukraine terminated fuel transit via its territory from Russia on January 1. Hungary continues to receive the bulk of gas under long-term contracts with Gazprom over the TurkStream pipeline and its branches via Bulgaria and Serbia.
