SaS Convenes Opposition Roundtable Discussion on Europe's Defence Ability

Bratislava, March 12 (TASR) - The opposition Freedom and Solidarity (SaS) party has convened a roundtable meeting of opposition parties on the issue of Europe's defence capabilities for March 19, MP Jan Krupa (SaS) told a news conference on Wednesday. SaS would also like to discuss the issue of an increase in defence spending with its opposition peers at the meeting. "We view this issue as crucial and important not only from the economic viewpoint, though we naturally have to talk about what impacts it will have, but also from the security, international security and defence perspectives. We find it important to discuss this issue with all the opposition parties and seek a common stance so that we can declare to our partners abroad that Slovakia is interested in this issue," said Krupa. A debate on the coalition's proposals on the European defence issue should be also on the agenda of the meeting, he added. Krupa also commented on Ukraine's agreement with the US ceasefire proposal, noting that the ball is now in Russia's court. He stated that Ukraine is ready for a ceasefire and has always been ready for a just peace. He pointed out that a ceasefire also lasted from 2014 to 2022, when Russia launched a full-scale attack on Ukraine. ko/df
