Bratislava, March 12 (TASR) - Illegal migration across Slovak borders decreased by more than 94 percent last year, with secondary transit migration falling by 99.9 percent, according to a Report on the Activities of the Chief Border Proxy for 2024 acknowledged by the cabinet at its session on Wednesday. "Measures aimed at detecting illegal migration and combating smuggling taken by several countries on the migration route passing through Slovak territory are having a considerable impact on the current situation, with the most significant impact due to measures adopted near the Serbian-Hungarian border. Their adoption has diverted significant migration pressure to the route passing through Bosnia and Herzegovina towards Croatia, Slovenia and further on to the target destination countries. The current migration pressure in these countries is similar to that which Slovakia experienced over the previous two years," reads the report. According to the document, illegal migration on the Slovak-Ukrainian border is currently the dominant form in Slovakia. An increase of over 280 percent, or 914 foreigners, was recorded there. Almost all persons crossing this border away from official border crossings are men of recruitment age. ko/df
