Poprad, March 17 (TASR) - The geriatric wing in Poprad Hospital (Presov region) has been completely renovated, and it was opened on Monday with Health Minister Kamil Sasko (Voice-SD) and Vice-premier for the Recovery Plan Peter Kmec in attendance. Hospital director Stanislav Kandrik said that the construction site was formally handed over to the contractor in April of last year. This building from the 1970s is the first to undergo reconstruction on the hospital complex. "Symbolically, this is a geriatric building that will serve our oldest patients. I can see symbolism in the fact that we can thank our oldest generations and our predecessors who have contributed to the development of this hospital," said the director. The cost of the renovation amounted to €5.2 million, ex-VAT. According to the director, the project was slightly overpriced, mainly due to shortcomings in the project documentation, while at the same time there were problems with the statics in the extension. Sasko stressed that modernising hospitals is a priority not only for patients. "It's equally important for the staff to work in modern and dignified premises. That's exactly why we are here today to open the geriatric wing. After this renovation, there will be 59 full-fledged beds, including 12 in the intensive care unit," said the minister, adding that the project was implemented under a so-called small call of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan. am/df
