New Delhi, March 18 (TASR-correspondent) - Indian investor Amara Raja Batteries, a subsidiary of Amara Raja Group, is preparing to invest in battery production in Slovakia, with collaboration from a Chinese investor, the Slovak side, and the Indian partner, TASR learnt from Foreign Minister Juraj Blanar (Smer-SD) on Tuesday.
"I will have a meeting with a major Indian investor who is preparing to invest in Slovakia in the field of battery production. This topic is very important for the Slovak government. You know that we have a very important Chinese investor, a Slovak partner and also one from India, so I am looking forward to this discussion. I'm very curious to know at what stage the preparation of this investment is," Blanar said before the meeting during his foreign trip to India.
The minister stressed that the investment is important for Slovakia in terms of the transition to electromobility, as the country, according to him, must prepare for this shift. "Today we're a global powerhouse in the production of passenger vehicles per capita, but the vast majority are still combustion engines; however, the future is electromobility," said Blanar.
The head of the ministry described this investment as strategic, not only for Slovakia but also for the European Union. He stated that if the EU wants to catch up with countries such as China in terms of electromobility, it must invest more significantly in similar technologies.
On Tuesday, as part of the business mission to India, Slovak entrepreneurs will attend the Slovak Technologies and Innovation Day 2025, where they will meet with representatives of India's largest business chamber, which has 100,000 members nationwide. These meetings will provide Slovak entrepreneurs with insights into doing business in India and the conditions of the Indian market, Blanar clarified.
"Slovakia is very welcome and respected here, and we have left quite a significant mark. Today, Slovakia is already being mentioned in Indian discussions as a country that can serve as a so-called gateway for investors within the European Union," stated the Blanar.
