New Delhi, March 18 (TASR-correspondent) - Slovakia has a clear stance on upholding international law, with preserving the power of veto in the European Union (EU) being key in order to avoid a potential violation of state sovereignty, stated Foreign Minister Juraj Blanar (Smer-SD) on Tuesday after his speech at the Raisina Dialogue multilateral conference in India.
"This panel was very important at this moment, as we're facing the erosion of international law, and I'm very pleased that the panelists included the Indian Foreign Minister himself, Mr. Jaishankar. The topics were very diverse, but first and foremost we spoke about respect for international law, on which Slovakia has an absolutely clear position," said Blanar.
The Slovak minister recalled the violation of international law in connection with the war in Ukraine, stating that any change of borders by force is unacceptable in terms of compliance with the UN Charter. "I think that diplomacy failed right at the beginning of this conflict, and there's a need to return to diplomatic solutions," said the head of diplomacy, who also expressed his disappointment at current developments in the Gaza Strip.
The Raisina Dialogue is a multilateral conference held annually in New Delhi, India. Since 2016, the conference has become India's flagship event in the fields of geopolitics and geo-economics. The conference is structured as an inter-sectoral discussion with multiple stakeholders, featuring various global policymakers, including heads of state, ministers and government officials.
