Vallo: Petrzalka Trams Could Be Put in Regular Operation in May

Bratislava, March 20 (TASR) - The capital city expects trams to be running regularly in Bratislava's borough of Petrzalka by the end of May, Bratislava mayor Matus Vallo has announced on a social network, adding that this will depend on the permit procedures and the issuing of a licence to run the new tramline, however. "Depending on the permit procedures and the issuing of a licence to run the new tramline, we expect the tram to be fully operational by the end of May," said Vallo. Asphalt continues to be laid on all footpaths and cycle paths along the new tramline, along with all the roads and junctions that have had to be relocated due to the tramline's construction. According to Vallo, the construction work along the line should gradually "ease off" during April. This will be followed by the setting up of public transport shelters and planting of greenery near the track. The last road section to be completed as part of the project even after the tram is already in operation will be the Kutlikova Street section. "It's difficult owing to the need to construct two new bridges over the Chorvatske rameno channel, with the most intensive construction work still underway there," said the mayor. The section should be completed by the end of August. The construction of the line on the Jungmannova-Janikov Dvor section, which bisects the entire borough and terminates on its outskirts, was launched in November 2021. The project faced several problems from the beginning, with work held up significantly at times. A tram travelled along the new line in Petrzalka for the first time in a trial run last December, more than three years after construction work on the section began. The capital city repeatedly declared that it was doing its utmost for trams to be put in regular operation in the spring of 2025. ko/df
