Bratislava/Malacky, March 20 (TASR) - A man banned from driving until 2033 attempted to flee the police in his vehicle on Wednesday (March 19), and when he was caught, the officers discovered that he was under the influence of amphetamine and methamphetamine, TASR learnt from Bratislava region police spokesperson Michal Szeiff on Thursday.
A Malacky district patrol noticed a suspicious car shortly before 9 p.m. They wanted to stop the driver in Velke Levare (Bratislava region) and submit him to a breathalyser test, but the driver accelerated instead and tried to flee. "He failed to respond to light and sound signals and continued to speed away through the villages of Moravsky Svaty Jan, Sekule, finally steering the car onto the D2 motorway," said the spokesperson.
Additional patrols joined the pursuit, while the 48-year-old driver kept throwing various objects out of his car window.
By a coordinated effort, the police managed to overtake the car and force it to stop. The driver, however, continued to actively resist even then, refusing to get out of the car, so the officers used force to extricate him from the vehicle.
"The breathalyser test turned out negative, but a drugs test discovered the presence of amphetamine and methamphetamine in the man's system," said Szeiff.
The police escorted the driver to a holding cell and launched a criminal prosecution for the obstruction of an official decision.
