Roznava, March 21 (TASR) - The fourth regional trip of the opposition Progressive Slovakia (PS) took place this week in the Gemer and Malohont areas, with PS chairman Michal Simecka stating that he perceived a contrast between what people in the region are telling us and what the government in Bratislava is doing.
The PS leader added that the towns of Revuca, Rimavska Sobota, Jelsava (all Banska Bystrica region) and Roznava (Kosice region) are not typical PS domains, but the response of the locals they met was clear. "Young people are leaving from here because they can't fulfil their potential. The locals need new roads and infrastructure. They need available doctors and jobs," stressed Simecka.
According to deputy chairwoman of the House committee on agriculture and environment Tamara Stohlova, the Jelsava area has the worst air quality in the country. "Thousands of people die too early every year in Slovakia because of air pollution," said Stohlova, adding that locals have also been waiting for years for a solution to the pollution of the Slana River.
MPs for the Progressive Slovakia spoke in the Gemer and Malohont areas with local residents and met with local entrepreneurs. They also talked to the Slovak Karst National Park director and the management of several cultural centres.
