Dolny Kubin, March 22 (TASR) - The Orava Museum of P.O. Hviezdoslav is preparing a thematic exhibition titled 'The 80th Anniversary of the End of World War II' in the exhibition premises of Florin's House in the town of Dolny Kubin (Zilina region), the museum has posted on its website, adding that the exhibition will be open to the public as of 3 p.m. on March 24.
"We're commemorating the 80th anniversary of the end of WWII this year. It's undeniable that WWII was the most significant event of the 20th century and is also one of the most important events in the entire history of mankind," said the museum representatives.
A brief history of the conflict will be displayed on boards. It will touch on the causes of the war, its course and consequences, with specific mention of Slovakia and the Orava area.
Information texts will be supplemented with original documents, photographs and maps. "At the same time, we'll present original historical artefacts from the wartime period, such as weapons, uniforms, personal items, flags and other items belonging to the participants in the conflict, from both sides of the trenches and barricades of the time. They will offer visitors at least a brief insight into this undoubtedly very significant era of our common history," said the museum representatives, adding that the exhibition will be open until July 13.
