President Expects House Session to Open on Tuesday

Bratislava, March 24 (TASR) - I think that the upcoming parliamentary session will be a test of whether the majority in the House has been stabilised, President Peter Pellegrini told the media in Zvolen (Banska Bystrica region) on Monday, adding that so far it looks like the session will be opened. "Tuesday's (March 25) meeting will be a big test of the governing coalition, whether Premier Robert Fico (Smer-SD) has managed to stabilise the majority in Parliament with all the agreements and reshuffles in ministerial posts and whether the governing coalition will return in full force to fulfilling the government manifesto and addressing the real problems of the people," he said. The head of state thinks that the disagreements in the coalition have burdened the public for a long time. Whether the agreements have helped to gain stability, he said, will be shown by the personnel elections that are on the agenda of the session. However, he thinks the MPs will be able to open the session on Tuesday, noting that he'll be watching it closely. "For the time being, the prime minister has a majority, or there is no group of 76 MPs in Parliament today that would be able to pass a vote of no-confidence in this government," he added. MPs are set to meet at a regular session on Tuesday. In addition to government and MPs proposals, they are also expected to hold personnel elections, including of the House chair. am/df
