MPs Begin Discussing Proposal for Electing House Chair

Bratislava, March 25 (TASR) - MPs on Tuesday afternoon began debating a motion on the election of the new parliamentary chair. According to the coalition agreement, the post of House chair belongs to the Voice-SD party, which has nominated its deputy chairman Richard Rasi for the post. Coalition MPs have already declared their support for him. The opposition doesn't intend to take part in the election. Four lawmakers have registered in writing for the debate. Parliament should vote on the proposal at 5 p.m. on Tuesday. If it isn't able to conclude the debate on the motion, it will vote on the House chair on Wednesday (March 26). The post of parliamentary head has been vacant since April 2024, when the then head of Parliament Peter Pellegrini won the presidential election. For the time being, House Vice-chair Peter Ziga (Voice-SD) has been entrusted with the management of Parliament. am/df
