Bratislava, March 26 (TASR) - From Wednesday evening until further notice, exceptional measures, including inspections and disinfection, are in place at border crossings with Hungary due to foot-and-mouth disease, the Agriculture Ministry stated on social media on the same day. "Vehicles over three and a half tonnes may only pass through the large border crossings at Rusovce, Medvedov, Komarno, Sturovo, and Sahy," the ministry stated. It also emphasised that, following the confirmation of another outbreak of the disease in the Hungarian village of Level, animals susceptible to foot-and-mouth disease can only be transported through the Sahy border crossing. According to Slovakia's chief veterinary officer Martin Chudy, international transport is only permitted without stopping or unloading on Slovak territory, with a preference for main roads. The Police Corps Presidium clarified that until motor vehicle disinfection devices are installed, the movement of motor vehicles through small former border crossings with Hungary will be prohibited. The police also highlighted the inspection of all trucks crossing the border with Hungary and visual checks of vehicles under 3.5 tonnes to detect the transport of animals susceptible to foot-and-mouth disease, with potential traffic slowdowns in border areas. lin
