'Slovakia' Party Calls on PG Zilinka to Complete His Entire Tenure

Bratislava, March 28 (TASR) - The opposition 'Slovakia' party has called on Prosecutor-General (PG) Maros Zilinka to complete his entire tenure until 2027, MP Gabor Grendel ('Slovakia', 'For the People', KU) said at a press conference on Friday in response to the approval of an after-service pension on Thursday (March 27) for the prosecutor-general, which he would receive even if he doesn't complete his term of office.
Grendel claimed that the coalition wants to elect a new head of the Prosecutor's Office during this electoral term. "Our suspicions have been confirmed by the words of MEP Erik Kalinak, who is also the head of Premier Robert Fico's (Smer-SD) advisory team. He provided a statement according to which Smer-SD has already prepared candidates for the new prosecutor-general, namely lawyers Marek Para and David Lindtner," he said.
It's obvious that the governing Smer-SD party is no longer satisfied with Zilinka's performance and wants to elect his replacement. "We call on Maros Zilinka not to be bought and to properly see out his seven-year tenure," added Grendel.
Parliament passed legislation on Thursday (March 27) to change the rules under which prosecutors receive their severance pay and after-service pension, with the prosecutor-general now eligible for a special after-service pension after completing four years of the seven-year tenure, provided that he or she served as a prosecutor for at least 20 years.
