Detva: Dead Man Found in Woods, Probably Attacked by Bear (2)

Banska Bystrica, March 31 (TASR) - A dead man with devastating traumatic injuries was found in the woods near Detva (Banska Bystrica region), with preliminary findings indicating that he succumbed to an attack by a brown bear, TASR learnt from the State Nature Protection (SOP) on Monday. The man had been missing since Sunday afternoon (March 30), added SOP. "The attack took place about a kilometre away from an urban area in the woods, outside of protected zones," detailed SOP, adding that the dead body was found late on Sunday. A brown bear strike team surveyed the attack site and deployed monitoring devices as well as signs to warn of the bear's presence. Banska Bystrica police spokesperson Petra Kovacikova added that police had received a report of a 59-year-old man missing in Detva on Sunday evening. More than 40 people from various departments and teams were searching for him, including his family members. "After about two hours of search, his dead body was found in the woods," she claimed, adding that the remains had visible extensive injuries. The precise cause of death is to be determined by an autopsy. mf
