Bratislava, March 31 (TASR) - Economy Minister Denisa Sakova (Voice-SD) will receive United States Ambassador to Slovakia Gautam Rana on Monday, the ministry told TASR on Monday, adding that the main objective of this diplomatic visit will be to discuss the introduction of tariffs on car imports to the USA.
Immediately after this meeting, the minister will also hold a meeting at the Economy Ministry with representatives of car companies that have their production plants in Slovakia.
"We need to communicate clearly and openly that the forthcoming actions by the USA aren't beneficial either for the USA or Europe. At the same time, I want to declare that we're communicating very intensively with the automotive industry and we'll look for all possibilities to support it in these difficult times," said Sakova.
US President Donald Trump announced new tariffs on car imports to the USA on Thursday (March 27). Slovakia will be one of the most affected countries, as the USA was the second largest export destination for Slovak car companies.
The new tariffs will hit goods from Slovakia worth about 2.5 percent of our GDP. Sakova has already personally discussed this threat with all car companies that have their production plants in Slovakia.
