FinMin: State Budget Deficit Down by One Third Y-o-Y to €1.45 billion in March

Bratislava, April 1 (TASR) - The state budget saw a deficit of €1.447 billion at the end of March 2025, which was an improvement of €734 million, or 33.7 percent year-on-year (y-o-y), the Finance Ministry announced on Tuesday.
State-budget incomes grew by €1.389 billion, or 32 percent y-o-y to stand at €5.725 billion at the end of March, while expenditures rose by €655 million, or 10 percent to €7.172 billion.
"Tax revenues grew by €1.062 billion y-o-y in March. Of this, the highest proportion as usual came from value-added tax, bringing in €605.5 million more than the year before. The amount of corporate tax collected rose by €185.2 million, that of withholding tax by €5.1 million, while other taxes on goods and services grew by €1.4 million," said the Finance Ministry.
Income from the special levy from businesses operating in regulated branches increased by €59.2 million y-o-y. Private individuals contributed €225.4 million more than the year before in personal income tax.
Conversely, negative developments were seen in excise taxes, which brought €17.5 million less into state coffers than the year before, and in the solidarity contribution from activities in the oil, natural gas, coal and refinery sectors, which fell by €2 million y-o-y.
"Positive developments were posted in revenues from the EU budget, which went up by €377.9 million y-o-y," stated the ministry. Payments to the EU budget rose by €58.1 million (33.2 percent) in March.
The cost of state-debt servicing grew by €206.6 million (39.5 percent) in March.
State-budget expenditures related to drawing EU funds swelled by €17 million (3.9 percent). Expenditures related to drawing money from the Recovery and Resilience Plan rose by €181.5 million (620.1 percent).
