Bratislava, April 2 (TASR) - Hospice care has been stabilised for now, with all three health insurance companies agreeing to extend contracts with hospice providers for this year, Health Minister Kamil Sasko (Voice-SD) stated at a press conference on Wednesday. The minister noted that health insurance companies will increase reimbursements for hospices. The reimbursement per bed per day has risen from €100 to €230, and the fee for a mobile hospice visit has increased from €61 to €95. "I'm convinced that these changes represent a significant increase in reimbursements and mark a fundamental shift in the funding of care for terminally ill patients," Sasko stated, thanking all the insurance companies for their constructive approach during the negotiations. Simona Stiskalova from the Association of Hospice and Palliative Care of Slovakia noted that it is a historic day, as hospice and palliative care have made significant progress after decades. "Although we faced obstacles and tough negotiations, in the end, everyone reached an agreement, ensuring that patients can spend the last days of their lives free from suffering and in the dignified care they deserve," she said. She also believes this marks the beginning of further discussions and systemic changes. lin
