Bratislava, April 3 (TASR) - The Slovak National Party (SNS) has called on Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) to dismiss Maros Sefcovic from his post as European Commissioner representing Slovakia, accusing him of passivity in connection with the introduction of US tariffs and of joint responsibility for reducing the EU's competitiveness.
"SNS considers it to be a political mistake that the European Commission (EC) isn't negotiating with representatives of the US administration when tariffs are being introduced. It's especially unacceptable for us that Slovak representative Maros Sefcovic is in charge of this very issue," said SNS spokeswoman Zuzana Skopcova in a statement provided to the media.
The party also considers the Slovak commissioner to be the "father" of the Green Deal, and thus directly responsible for the "downfall of the EU economy". "He was there when the insane conditions of the Green Deal were introduced. He was there when the conditions were imposed that are destroying heavy industry in the European Union, and today he's failing again in that post," stressed the party.
SNS believes that the premier will consider whether to keep Sefcovic in the post of EU commissioner in view of the impact that the introduction of tariffs will have on the Slovak economy, especially the automotive industry.
