Bratislava/Velke Levare, April 3 (TASR) - The Nivky location on the grounds of the Zahorie Military Zone has been chosen as another burial site for slaughtered animals from Plavecky Stvrtok, where foot-and-mouth disease has been confirmed, Agriculture and Rural Development Minister Richard Takac (Smer-SD) confirmed after meeting local mayors in the area on Thursday.
"Only animals from stocks that had no symptoms of the disease will be buried here. Those that were sick will be transported after being slaughtered to the Zilina facility," stated Takac.
The minister underlined that the area in the military woods located between the villages of Studienka and Velke Levare was chosen only after it was declared safe in terms of public health as well as environmental concerns.
The presence of foot-and-mouth disease was detected on Sunday (March 30) at the farm in Plavecky Stvrtok, making it the fifth epicenter of the contagion in Slovakia. The farm had more than 3,500 livestock.
