Trnava/Moravsky Svaty Jan, April 4 (TASR) - The border crossing between Austria and Slovakia located between the villages of Hohenau and Moravsky Svaty Jan, will be closed to all road traffic, including pedestrians and cyclists, as of Saturday (April 5) and until further notice, TASR has learnt from a statement by the Trnava Region Police.
The decision was made by Austria to prevent the spread of foot-and-mouth disease.
The police added that due to restrictions and checks imposed by the Czech Republic, queues of lorries up to several kilometres long are currently forming at the border crossing with the Czech Republic on the D2 motorway. Cars are passing through without restrictions.
"The Skalica-Sudomerice border crossing is designated only for vehicles weighing up to 3.5 tonnes," the police added, noting that travellers should expect checks, potential vehicle disinfection or other measures at border crossings with the Czech Republic.
