Senica, April 6 (TASR) - The town of Senica (Trnava region) is commemorating the 80th anniversary of its liberation with a series of events, including a memorial ceremony, a thematic exhibition, recognition of resistance fighters, and a reconstruction of the battle for Senica, Senica spokesperson Tatiana Moravcova told TASR.
The exhibition will be open until May 25 and includes interactive panels showcasing events related to the city’s liberation and the defeat of Nazism. It also highlights the names and stories of those involved in the anti-fascist resistance in Senica and the surrounding area.
"Visitors can learn about key historical events related to this period," said Moravcova.
The accompanying programme for the celebration consisted of four Saturday (April 5) events at the museum. There were displays of period uniforms and equipment from various Second World War armies presented by military history clubs.
A wreath-laying ceremony will take place at the Victory statue on Liberation Square on Monday (April 7).
Commemorative medals in memoriam for participants in the anti-fascist resistance will be awarded in the Wedding Hall of Senica Town Hall on April 9.
The highlight of the accompanying programme will be an event on May 17 on the city museum grounds, where the Tank Club from Zilina will present a re-enactment of the battle for Senica.
