Stats: Slovakia Posted Trade Balance Deficit of €41.9 million in February 2025

Bratislava, April 9 (TASR) - Slovakia recorded a trade balance deficit of €41.9 million in February, while it showed a surplus of €652.3 million for the same month of last year, according to preliminary figures for February 2025 published by the Statistics Office on Wednesday.
Slovakia posted a trade-balance deficit for the third month in a row in February.
Exports from Slovakia amounted to €9.2 billion in February, up 4.3 percent y-o-y. Imports grew by 13.1 percent to €9.3 billion. This was the highest growth in imports seen since December 2022, stated the office.
The growth in exports was mainly driven by the category of machinery and transport equipment, including cars, which rose by 4.6 percent y-o-y. Meanwhile, a 55.9-percent increase in the value of exported mineral fuels, including exports of electricity and oil products, had the greatest impact on imports in February, and imports underwent the most-rapid growth seen since December 2022.
The most-frequently traded articles were machinery and transport equipment, which made up over 61 percent of total exports and 45 percent of total imports.
Almost 78 percent of total exports headed to other EU countries, while imports from these countries accounted for over 63 percent. Exports to the rest of the Union grew by over 2 percent y-o-y, with imports going up as much as by almost 10 percent. Exports outside the EU increased by more than 12 percent, while imports from third countries rose by over 19 percent.
Slovakia posted a trade balance deficit of €275.3 million in the first two months of the year. Exports went up by 2.5 percent to €17.8 billion, while imports rose by 11.7 percent to €18.1 billion.
