'Slovakia' to Support KDH's Proposal to Amend Constitution, Not Fico's

Bratislava, April 9 (TASR) - Lawmakers of the opposition 'Slovakia' party will lend their support to changes to the Slovak Constitution sponsored by the Christian Democrats (KDH), but they won't vote for the government-drafted proposal that Prime Minister Robert Fico (Smer-SD) came up with, 'Slovakia' party spokesperson Matus Bystriansky announced on Wednesday. The party underlined that the government's changes to the Constitution are nothing but red herring with which Fico is attempting to deflect attention away from his own failures. "Robert Fico brings up conservative issues only when the tide turns against him; his actions are neither social nor related to conservative politics. The lawmakers of 'Slovakia' won't support Smer's proposal and will vote only for the motion of the Christian Democrats, who are credible on these issues," stated 'Slovakia'-For the People-KU caucus chair Michal Sipos. In the view of MP Rastislav Kratky ('Slovakia'), the prime minister is playing a false game with conservative voters. "He only latches on to conservative topics in an opportunistic manner when his approval ratings are dropping. He's been doing this repeatedly throughout his political career. It is insincere, and we won't fall for this game," he added. mf/df
