Nitra, April 10 (TASR) - Indian President Draupadi Murmu visited the Jaguar Land Rover car plant in Nitra, part of the Indian company Tata Motors, on Thursday, and later, along with Slovak President Peter Pellegrini, planted a narrow-leaved ash tree in the city park to commemorate her visit.
According to Nitra mayor Marek Hattas, the tree symbolises strong relationship between India and Slovakia. "Today, several residents of India work at the Jaguar Land Rover car plant. That's why it's important to maintain contacts and good relations between our countries. I perceive my personal meeting with the [Indian] president as very positive," stated the mayor.
Hattas also mentioned that since 2019, the city has had the COMIN organisation, which helps foreign workers, including those from India, integrate into everyday life in Nitra. "It's worth noting that the people coming to work in Nitra from India are already trained at Tata Motors' plants in India, and being sent to Europe is considered an honour for them. They're among the best employees, and our cooperation with them is excellent. In Nitra, we do our best to support them as they adjust to their new life," Hattas added.
