Liberation80: Hundreds of Students Participate in Ziar nad Hronom Liberation Run

Ziar nad Hronom, April 11 (TASR) - About 300 student runners of all age categories took to the starting line on Friday in Ziar nad Hronom (Banska Bystrica region) for the traditional Ziar nad Hronom Liberation Run, TASR has learnt. Jan Ziak from the Ziar nad Hronom town office explained that this year marked the 35th edition of the popular running event. It began in the 1990s as part of the town's liberation celebrations, which are regularly held in early April. The tradition is still upheld today, with the event organized by the town of Ziar nad Hronom in cooperation with other partners. This year’s race took place on the grounds of the Elementary School on Jilemnickeho Street and brought together students not only from Ziar’s elementary and secondary schools but also from Banska Stiavnica, Hodrusa-Hamre, Zupkov, Kremnica, and Trnava Hora. Competitors raced on tracks of varying lengths depending on their age category. According to Ziak, the event has become a well-loved tradition over the years, as evidenced by the high number of participants. Each runner received a medal, and the top finishers were awarded trophies. mf
