Speaking on Joj 24's discussion programme 'Politika 24' (Politics 24) on Sunday, opposition MP and 'Slovakia' party leader Igor Matovic said that his party would support Slovak National Party's (SNS) proposal to scrap the transaction tax for small business owners and freelancers.
However, Matovic isn't sure whether SNS leader Andrej Danko will have the courage to see the proposal through to the end or whether he'll back down, though the 'Slovakia' leader considers it foolish that Danko initially voted in favour of introducing the transaction tax.
Matovic once again criticised the current government. He reiterated his disagreement with the law on compensating fines for breaching COVID-19 measures, which was approved by Parliament this week. He praised the approach of President Peter Pellegrini, who described the legislation as a dangerous precedent, adding that he'll have a problem with signing it.
The discussion also touched on the management of the pandemic during Matovic's time as premier. The MP argued that Slovakia adopted the same measures as the rest of the civilised world, adding that since Robert Fico's government took office, he hasn't been called in by the police regarding the handling of the pandemic.
