Martin/Bratislava, April 14 (TASR) - Ecco Slovakia will cease production at its facility in Martin this summer, with the shutdown set to affect 650 employees, TASR learnt from Matej Kovac of Grayling Slovakia on Monday.
In light of global business and economic developments, the international footwear manufacturer Ecco has decided to adjust the distribution of its production capacities to better align with market needs. As a result, it will end production at its Martin plant this summer after nearly 30 years of operation.
“When evaluating our model of six global production facilities, we had to make the difficult decision to close our plant in Martin,” said Petr Milan, the General Manager of Ecco Slovakia, adding that the company’s management is preparing compensation packages for employees, as well as other measures in line with the collective agreement, aimed at helping people get through this difficult situation.
“We are currently doing everything we can to provide our employees with the necessary support and care during this challenging time,” Milan added.
Opened since 1998, the factory, which specializes in both formal and casual footwear categories, has delivered more than 50 million pairs of shoes to global markets over its lifetime. The current situation at the Martin plant will not affect Ecco’s retail network in Slovakia.
