Bratislava, April 16 (TASR) - A total of 64 Czech firefighters were deployed in Slovakia to operate a decontamination gate in connection with the spread of foot-and-mouth disease, the Interior Ministry posted on a social network on Wednesday.
The Fire and Rescue Corps (HaZZ) wrote on the social network that the Czech firefighters returned home on Monday (April 14) after 22 days of deployment.
"The Czech firefighters helped to decontaminate people and vehicles at the Medvedov border crossing, but also in the villages of Mala Luc, Narad, Jurova, Dolny Stal (all Trnava region) and Plavecky Stvrtok (Bratislava region). Their presence contributed significantly towards stopping the spread of the disease. An Austrian team was also deployed at the border and completed its mission last week," wrote the ministry.
Slovakia requested assistance via the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism.
