Bratislava, April 24 (TASR) - The Interior Ministry on Thursday handed over the first 20 new police cars to the traffic police, Interior Minister Matus Sutaj Estok (Voice-SD) told a press conference on the same day alongside the leadership of the Police Corps.
In total, the ministry has bought 70 new cars, which will mainly deal with traffic accidents. "We're replacing old and worn-out cars that our accident police have had since 2016, almost a decade ago, they had a lot of kilometres on the clock," said Sutaj Estok, noting that the total cost of each vehicle was around €105,000. Approximately two-thirds of that amount was the cost of the car itself, while the rest was made up of the equipment, its installation and police markings.
Sutaj Estok expects that the modernisation of the police's vehicle fleet will bring safer working conditions for police officers and more safety for the public.
