President Pellegrini Ratifies EU-Malaysia Framework Agreement

Bratislava, April 24 (TASR) - President Peter Pellegrini has ratified the Framework Agreement on Partnership and Cooperation between the European Union (EU) and its member states on one side, and the government of Malaysia on the other, TASR learnt from his official website on Thursday. The head of state ratified the agreement on April 16. "The agreement sets a framework for mutually beneficial cooperation in the economy and trade, as well as in the fields of justice and home affairs, including the fight against terrorism, corruption, organised crime and illegal migration. It also covers cooperation in environmental protection, energy, climate change, transport, science and technology, employment and social issues, education, agriculture and culture, etc." states the document. In addition, the agreement includes provisions for protecting the EU's financial interests. Part of the agreement focuses on trade cooperation, creating conditions for the potential conclusion of a free trade agreement. At the same time, the agreement represents a step towards deepening political, regional and global cooperation between two like-minded partners. mf/df
