Simecka Hopes Parliament Won't Override President's Veto of COVID Amnesty

Bratislava, April 25 (TASR) - Chair of the opposition Progressive Slovakia (PS) party Michal Simecka hopes that Parliament will not override the president's veto of the bill on so-called COVID amnesties. Simecka said this on Friday in response to President Peter Pellegrini's decision not to sign the bill aimed at "remedying injustices caused to individuals" by anti-pandemic measures. "This proposal for a COVID amnesty is a dangerous precedent. It's a slap in the face of the relatives of COVID victims, and above all, what if another pandemic or problem were to arise? Who would still comply with such measures?" asked the PS leader, who praised the president for refusing to sign the bill into law. mf/df
