Bratislava, April 25 (TASR) - A stable business environment, predictable laws, reasonable reforms and an efficient labour market were identified by employers belonging to the Republic Union of Employers (RUZ) as being necessary in a discussion with government officials during the annual RUZ congress. Challenges such as consolidation measures, rising costs for companies and legislative uncertainty were high on the agenda of the meeting. "The Slovak economy has been losing its competitiveness for a long time. Without it, we can't expect Slovakia to enjoy prosperity, higher salaries for employees, quality education and health care or a functioning social system," said RUZ vice-president Jozef Spirko. "Instead of increasing taxes and levies further, the government must finally turn its attention to what really keeps the economy afloat - a healthy business environment," he stressed. Labour, Social Affairs and the Family Minister Erik Tomas (Voice-SD) stated that the aim is to create a fair business environment. "We want to create a fair business environment that promotes employment and fair working conditions. We want to give people the chance to get a real job instead of depending on social benefits, and we're also tackling the abuse of fictitious sole traders," he said in response. The RUZ vice-president warned that Slovakia is no longer attractive not only to foreign investors, but also to Slovak ones. According to him, the business environment needs reforms that will help businesses to grow. Spirko stressed the importance of qualified employees and stable conditions for business, as well as the need for a lower bureaucratic burden and less regulation. "It is at this critical moment that we expect support from the government. The government must finally listen to the voice of employers and not hinder the economy and individual enterprises," said the RUZ vice-president. am/df
