Bratislava, April 25 (TASR) - The opposition's Christian Democratic Movement (KDH) welcomes the decision of President Peter Pellegrini to veto the so-called COVID amnesty bill and hopes that coalition lawmakers will correct their mistake in Parliament, TASR learnt from KDH's press department on Friday.
During deliberations, KDH will attempt to attach an amendment to the bill so that the misdemeanor amnesty will not apply to those who knowingly violated anti-pandemic measures.
"With this decision, the President is at least briefly putting Slovakia back on the map of the civilized world. I hope his arguments will persuade coalition legislators and lead to a fundamental revision of this harmful law, which rewards the irresponsible and disrespects honest citizens and healthcare workers," stated MP Peter Stachura (KDH).
MP František Majerský (KDH) added that the law on so-called COVID amnesties would be a slap in the face to all patients, their families, healthcare workers who pushed themselves to their limits, and those who lost their lives in the fight against COVID. "No, we must not forget. And certainly not forgive without justice. Thank you, Mr. President, for standing on the side of truth, memory, and respect for the victims. This is not the end. This is the beginning of the fight for trust in justice," Majersky added.
