Bratislava, April 26 (TASR) - The Bratislava Castle will be lit up in honour of the late Pope Francis on the day of the state mourning on Saturday evening, Parliament Office's communication department has informed TASR.
The east side of the castle will be illuminated by a projection with a portrait of Pope Francis.
The illumination of the Bratislava Castle was initiated by House Chair Richard Rasi (Voice-SD). "The declaration of state mourning and the illumination of the Bratislava Castle, which is the dominant feature of our capital city, is an expression of huge respect for such a significant and unique figure as the Holy Father Francis was," said Rasi. According to him, the Pope's personality and spiritual legacy will be remembered by the general public and future generations of people around the world. All flags in front of the Parliament building in Bratislava are flying at half-mast as a sign of respect and expression of sorrow over the Pope's death on Saturday.
The state mourning in Slovakia will be in place until 6 p.m. on Saturday. Pope Francis died on Monday (April 21) morning at the age of 88. He had been the head of the Catholic Church since March 2013. His funeral is taking place on St. Peter's Square at the Vatican on Saturday.
