Liptovsky Mikulas/Bratislava, April 26 (TASR) - The history of the Military Pensioners’ Club (KVD) Liptov is rooted in developments of the last decades of the 20th century, when Liptovsky Mikulas grew into a nationally significant garrison town, KVD Liptov has shared with TASR.
New officers and soldiers arrived in that era, bringing their families with them. Many of them started families in the area and later chose to stay, remaining loyal to the city.
The community of people with direct or indirect ties to military institutions in the city expanded significantly. “Together, we worked on improving life in the town and surrounding areas. This naturally led to the integration and intertwining of shared interests with locals, who had lived here even before the military's presence expanded in Liptov. Liptov, and Liptovsky Mikulas in particular, grew and became what they are today thanks to this synergy between young newcomers and the local population,” the club stated.
Today, most of those who came to Liptov in their youth and remained are now of retirement age. “Our Military Pensioners’ Club Liptov, in its current form, is the result of that development — as seniors, we come together to create a dignified living environment for every retiree who has walked this journey with us. It’s not easy, but with support from the Liptovsky Mikulas town management and cooperation with other state and local authorities and organizations, we are gradually making this vision a reality,” they added.
KVD Liptov regularly organizes meetings, discussions, briefings, and assemblies. In the past month, they held a discussion with representatives from the Central Military Hospital SNP in Ruzomberok, focused on presenting support and assistance available to retired military personnel and war veterans.
In addition to participating in ceremonies, celebrations, and memorial events — such as the tribute to the victims of the air disaster near the village of Hejce, the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Okolicne, and the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Liptovsky Mikulas — KVD members also maintain and clean the insurgents’ graves in Demanovska Dolina.
