Bratislava, April 29 (TASR) - The opposition Progressive Slovakia (PS) is organising assemblies on May 8 in Bratislava and other Slovak cities to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War and Europe Day, with representatives from other opposition parties, including Freedom and Solidarity (SaS), Christian Democrats (KDH), and the non-parliamentary Democrats, also speaking at the events. "We invite our partners from the opposition and civil society as well. We must not allow this date to be overshadowed by Robert Fico's (Smer-SD) visit to Putin in Moscow. Let us show together that we stand on the right side, for Slovakia in the European Union, for the values of freedom, democracy, and peace," said PS leader Michal Simecka. The PS movement wants to celebrate peace and also honour the courage of those who fought for freedom. The SaS party confirmed that its representatives will attend several events, where they will also give speeches. The 'Slovakia' party will not be participating in the rallies. According to spokesperson Matus Bystriansky, one of the MPs from PS initially invited them to co-organise, but "a few days later, he informed us that SaS and the Democrats don't want our participation, and therefore don't count on us," Bystriansky told TASR. lin/mcs
